At the end of the interview/demo lesson, the
interviewer will offer you a certain amount per 25 minute class. It will be
anywhere from $7-9/class. That adds up to $14-18/hour. However, there is the
possibility of earning up to an extra $2/class based on the number of classes
you teach and your attendance.
The first
extra $1 comes from your attendance. If you show up and teach the class, you're
good! If you cancel the class between 24 and 2 hours before the class starts,
$2/canceled class will be subtracted from your total attendance bonus. If you
cancel within 2 hours of class starting or no show the class, $10/canceled or
no showed class will be subtracted from your total attendance bonus. So
basically, if you don't have to cancel or you don't no show a class, you will
always earn an extra $1 per class for attendance.
*Side Note: Luckily, this is
a job with a super flexible schedule that you set yourself, so cancellations
usually only have to happen in extreme circumstances (emergencies and
sicknesses). And nice for us, there is the option of a "soft cancellation"
for unavoidable circumstances (ER admittance, death of family member,
labor/birth) that don't impact your record with VIPKID.
The second extra (up to) $1 comes from the
number of classes you teach (finish) per month. If you finish 30-44 classes,
you get an extra $0.50/class. If you finish 45+ classes, you get an extra
$1/class. Each of these classes has to be finished "as scheduled,"
"student no show," "student IT problem," or "system
problem." A "teacher no show" will not count as one of your finished
classes. Seriously though, the 45 classes/month isn't too hard of a milestone
to reach. That is 7.5 hours/week. And when you're working morning hours anyway,
you probably don't have a ton scheduled. :)
I honestly have gotten the extra $2/class every time. So you can
basically count on it. I've never known someone who doesn't get it. With the
extra $2/class, that makes an extra $4/hour, which would mean a grand total of
anywhere from $18-22/hour.
If you are
willing to teach a class with less than 24 hours of notice, you also earn an
EXTRA $2/short notice class on top of all this. I use this 24 hour function
often.
You are not an
employee, you are contracted. So taxes will not be taken out of your paycheck
and you'll receive a 1099 during tax season so you can pay taxes.
Payment is
once a month anytime between the 10th and 15th by direct deposits.
